Restorative Dental Treatment in Palatine, IL

At Meadows Dental Care, we believe everyone deserves a smile they feel proud to show off. Our doctors and highly trained team of dental specialists work with our patients to help them achieve a healthy smile in the long term, and we strive to personalized care to suit each patient's unique needs and lifestyle. While we strive to focus on preventative care, sometimes, dental problems do happen – and when they do, crowns and bridges provide a highly effective way to repair or replace damaged teeth.

A dental bridge is a device used to replace a tooth that's missing or has been removed. Bridges are made to look and function just like natural teeth, and they're attached to crowns placed on the teeth adjacent to the missing tooth. In addition to replacing a missing tooth, bridges are also often necessary to prevent teeth shifting around and causing bite problems.

Bridges come in three main varieties, and the one we use will depend on your specific case:

  • Fixed Bridge: This is the most common form of bridge, and it consists of a replacement tooth attached to two crowns on either side of the replacement.
  • Maryland Bridge: This consists of a replacement tooth attached to tooth-colored metal bands, which are fitted on the teeth on either side of the replacement tooth. We'll usually use these to replace front teeth.
  • Cantilever Bridge: This is similar to the fixed bridge, but instead of having a crown on either side, the replacement tooth is attached to two crowns on the same side. Cantilever bridges are most commonly used to replace the rear molars.

Bridges offer a great option to replace missing teeth or to repair the smile after having a tooth extracted. Similar to crowns, you'll need to brush and floss your teeth every day to take care of your bridge and your smile as a whole. With daily, conscientious care, your bridge can last you a lifetime.
