If You Are Experiencing A Toothache

When experiencing a toothache, we suggest that you begin by cleaning around the sore tooth meticulously. To loosen any food that may remain trapped in your teeth, make sure you rinse your mouth with warm salt water. Should your gums start to swell, apply a cold compress to the area. We urge you to never use aspirin on the aching tooth or gum to prevent pain. If your pain persists for longer than 24 hours, please contact us immediately for an appointment.

Broken Braces and Wires

We at Meadows Dental Care suggest that unless the wire is easily removable that you do not remove it if it is loose. If it is lodged or painful to remove, cover any protruding edges with wax, cotton balls, gauze or chewing gum. We strongly recommend that you do not remove any wire caught in the gums, cheek or tongue. If this is the case, please call and see us immediately. Emergency attention is usually not required for loose or broken appliances that cause no discomfort.

Knocked Out Or Broken Tooth

Should you lose a permanent tooth, recover the tooth, making sure to hold it by the crown (top) and not the root. Rinse the tooth, but do not clean or handle the tooth more than necessary. Reinsert the tooth in the socket, and hold it in place using a clean piece of gauze or cloth. If the tooth cannot be reinserted, carry it in a cup containing milk or water. In this circumstance, time is essential make an appointment with us as soon as possible if you lose a permanent tooth.
